About Credit & Debt Solutions

We've been helping Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans for 25 years! We first got our start as Personal Credit Counselling Service (PCCS) back in 1982, when the provinces five (5) major religious denominations, in concert with the Community Services Council of Newfoundland and Labrador envisioned the need for a charitable agency to provide unbiased financial counselling along with a means by which the province's residents could become more aware of the importance of managing their personal finances effectively.

PCCS was incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable corporation in the spring of 1983 and we received charitable status later that same year.

In the spring of 2001, we changed our legal name to Credit Counselling Service of Newfoundland and Labrador (CCSNL) and added the Trade Name Credit and Debt Solutions (CDS) in 2006.

Through the cooperation of a number of stakeholders, associations and credit grantors, Credit & Debt Solutions provides professional credit counselling to financially burdened individuals and families. We assist our clients as they plan a family budget. Often we facilitate difficult situations, particularly if consumer debt is the major issue, by acting as our client(s)'s advocate with their creditors as they repay or settle the amount(s) owed.

From our Head Office in St. John's, our regional outlets in Grand Falls, and Corner Brook, we educate the public about money management and wise consumerism along with the appropriate use and beneficial aspects of credit.

Credit and Debt Solutions is governed by a Volunteer Board of Directors composed of representatives from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds including family and community services, employers, business and finance, the labour movement, government, education and the general public. Our Board of Directors is elected each year, usually at our Annual General Meeting.

Credit and Debt Solutions is funded through a variety of sources, including credit grantors and the credit industry. We also receive contributions from employers and the corporate community. Occasionally we also benefit from modest government grants You will see Credit and Debt Solutions actively fundraise when appropriate, however, you will never see us promote or participate in a lottery or game of chance type of fundraiser, or anything with a gambling theme.
