About Credit & Debt Solutions

The Personal Credit Counselling Service of Newfoundland and Labrador (PCCS) was conceived in 1982 by the province's five major religious denominations in concert with the Community Service Council of Newfoundland and Labrador.  PCCS was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in the spring of 1983 and received charitable status later that year. In spring of 2001 the agency changed its trade name to the Credit Counselling Service of Newfoundland and Labrador, (CCS).

Through the cooperation of various players and creditors, CCS provides professional credit counselling to financially burdened families.  We assist people as they plan their budget.  Often we facilitate difficult situations by acting as their advocate as our clients settle or repay their debt.

In the community we educate the public in money management and wise consumerism, along with appropriate use and beneficial aspects of credit.

CCS is governed by a Volunteer Board of Directors composed of representatives from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds including family service, employers, business and finance, the labour movement, government, education and the general public.  Directors are elected annually.

The agency is currently funded from a variety of sources including the credit industry, employers and the corporate sector.  The agency also actively fund raises when appropriate, and occasionally benefits from government grants.
