Financial knowledge is becoming more and more essential in an ever-changing consumer market; Credit and Debt Solutions initiated a Financial Literacy Program (FLP) in January 2008 with the appointment of Kathy Mackey as volunteer coordinator.A special Media Luncheon was held on May 22, 2008 to officially launch our program. Acting Mayor, Shannie Duff, graciously agreed to be our patron for the Financial Literacy Program, greeted members of the media and outlined the project’s aims and objectives.
The mandate of The Program is to educate the public in matters of personal finances and to enhance their consumer knowledge generally.Our Financial Literacy Program is comprised of professional volunteers who deliver educational presentations to groups, organizations and the general public.
Areas of interest are:
Program volunteers offer these sessions to any group expressing an interest and typically run from 45 minutes to one hour. Currently, our volunteers are available in the greater St. John’s area. Our goal in 2009 is to include the Western and Central areas of our province.
We’re looking for your group, service clubs, lunch and learn sessions, schools or anyone who would like to learn about money. Why not talk with your group about arranging a session soon.
